In the weekly seminars of the Environmental Engineering Department of Hacettepe University, the seminar given by Dr. Aysun Boşça, who works as an Environmental and Urbanization Expert at the General Directorate of EIA, Permits and Inspections of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, addressed the importance of Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) practices, their current status in Turkey and developments in legislation.

The seminar detailed the basic principles of SEA, their implementation processes and their effects on decision-making mechanisms. In addition, SEA studies conducted as pilots in Türkiye, how SEA is integrated into sectoral plans and programs and international good practice examples were also discussed. The speaker particularly emphasized the importance of considering environmental impacts in the planning phase in achieving sustainable development goals.
